DIY Health Conscious Ramen Seasoning

Updated: Jun 23, 2021

Eating right for your body does not mean you have to give up things you love. It does sometimes mean you have to get a little creative.

When I met my husband, Jeff, he was a true "American eater" with lots of meat and starch in his diet. A meal wasn't a meal if it didn't have meat and starch. He is a big fan of food I hadn't touched in years.

Now, his eating did not change overnight. Actually traditional ramen packets were one of the more recent things he ditched. And, he ditched it because we came up with an alternative!

When I was growing up, I ate a lot of the same food Jeff did. Yet, when I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2007, I gave it all up. I also started to learn more about nutrition and the crapped we find in processed foods. So, I had actually experimented a little over the years. Yet, since it was just for me, I was less concerned with getting it "just right".

Well, when we discovered a healthier instant ramen noodle that didn't come with a flavor packet, we decided to give it a go. Some mixes totally crashed and burned and some where ok. But this one, this one we both love.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast flakes

  • 1 tablespoons Himalayan salt

  • 1 tablespoon coconut sugar

  • 1 tablespoon onion powder

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder

  • 3/4 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric

  • 1/4 teaspoon wasabi powder

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger

Recipe:

We both do very different things with our ramen. I love to load mine up with spinach or bok choy. Jeff likes to add eggs and leftover meat from other meals. What will you add to your ramen?
